The Edge Auditorium, State Library of Queensland
A concert celebrating 2019
To celebrate the many successes of 2019, Upbeat Arts is delighted to present this concert which will showcase performances from each of our four programs.
- Absolutely Everybody Brisbane Choir
The Absolutely Everybody Brisbane Choir has had a successful year, with a record breaking 15 performances throughout 2019. Performances have included two at QPAC's Concert Hall, singing at the CEO Sleepout, the World's Big Sleepout, Parliament House, the International Conference on Youth Mental Health and many other special occasions.
The Choir recently celebrated their 5th birthday, and go from strength to strength under the leadership of their original Music Director, Melissa Gill.
The members are looking forward to this celebration at our very own Upbeat Arts concert.
- Rhythm of Life - music theatre
Under the direction of Jacqui Cuny, the music theatre troupe are excited to have the opportunity to perform some musical theatre songs, connected by movement and spoken words they've written themselves. The pieces Jacqui produces for this group are always heart-warming, yet fun.
Jacqui teaches all elements of performance and music theatre and it all comes together in this performance at this concert.
- Word on the Street - creative writing
Lucy Nelson takes the writers on a journey each Tuesday afternoon at the State Library. She teaches them new skills, and encourages them to explore different ways of getting their thoughts on to the page.
The writing group will delight us by reading some of the work they've produced throughout the year and some written especially for this concert.
- Song School - song writing
Song writing was introduced into our programs in 2019, and teacher Mandi Geary has enjoyed teaching her class the many elements involved in creating a new song. The class members have worked together to create a fabulous song which they'll be excited to share with everyone at this concert.
Also featuring our teachers: Jacqui Cuny, Melissa Gill, Lucy Nelson and Mandi Geary. As well as being incredible teachers, each are professional artists and we're delighted to showcase their talents.
WITH SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST - Craig Allister Young - Cellist and Singer.
